Singer-songwriter Lizzy Cameron introduces the music video, “This Body,” a track from her recently released EP, Small Victories, produced by Andrew Hey and Sam Ramirez.
Talking about the EP, Cameron shares, “‘Small Victories’ felt like the right name for the project because the song ‘Small Victories – B’s Interlude’ is about my struggles with depression and anxiety, with the B representing one of my closest friend Brennan who had recently died in a car accident at 19.”
Cameron attended Catholic schools while growing up. She wrote her first song in sixth grade while living in Louisiana. Later, during summer breaks, she worked in the studio on developing her artistry. In 2016, she released “Even Then.” While living in San Diego during high school, she attended Grammy Camp several times at USC and caught the attention of producer and current Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr.
Mason signed her to a development deal and invited her to his L.A. studio to co-write with top pop writers, resulting in the release of several mainstream pop singles.
Lizzy met her producers Andrew Hey and Sam Ramirez during her time working with Mason; she met her two other songwriter/producer collaborators Michael Campanelli and Maria McMillan while studying at USC’s Thornton School of Music, from which she recently graduated.
“It’s a daunting industry, and I think the key to being successful will be surrounding myself with like-minded creatives who like me believe that art comes first,” says Lizzy.
“This Body” opens on a low-slung acoustic guitar topped by Cameron’s evocative vocals, imbuing the lyrics with elegiac tones, at once wistful and echoing with heartache. Alluring and authentic, there’s a graceful, almost trembling, texture to Cameron’s voice that gives the song genuine, confessional passion, highlighted by an oh-so-revealing heavy sigh as the tune ends.
Dripping with profound emotion, “This Body” resonates with the outstanding voice of Lizzy Cameron, nakedly exposing poignant vulnerability.
