Brisbane, Australia-based, soon-to-be London-based artist, actress, and entrepreneur Rachael Blanche unveils her new music video, “Translator.”
Blanche explains, “‘Translator’ is all about the early stages of dating, where miscommunication over text and social media leaves so many questions. Any girl has been a part of many group chats where someone is sending screenshots of a conversation that the group is decoding. He keeps texting me but doesn’t ask any questions, he’s asking what I’m doing this weekend but doesn’t ask me out. When you meet someone and think it could be something major, you just need a translator!”
While in primary school, Blanche sang in front of the whole school each week for the parade, followed by putting together her first demo at age 11, along with performing in musicals at theatre companies. Later, after graduating from high school, she studied acting, followed by moving to Canada, where she was runner-up in a national singing contest.
Moving to the U.S., in 2014, she appeared on Tyler Touché’s hit song, “Heart in Motion,” resulting in collaborating with ARIA-nominated producer Stuart Stuart, including “Catch My Breath” and “Translator.”
“Translator” marks the first of six songs Blanche will release over the next year with live shows in the works in the U.S., U.K., and Australia.
Opening on soft, gleaming tones, “Translator” flows into a voluptuous soul-pop-flavored melody riding a fat bassline and crisp percussion as Blanche’s deliciously evocative, velvety voice infuses the lyrics with silky-smooth timbres.
“Trying to decode what you say / Do you feel the same way / This could be major / I just need a translator / Say the words and I will stay / Do you feel the same way / This could be major / I just need a translator.”
Speaking about the video, Blanche shares, “The ‘Translator’ film clip takes you on a journey of a new couple, the moment’s when she’s in her room texting, to the first date, and the chemistry, to dropping her home, and confusion setting in. He walks her to her door, does he want to come in, he says ‘we should do this again sometime,’ the frustration of reading between the lines, never quite sure what he means. When being vulnerable and honest and just saying you like them is the scariest thing.”
Rachael Blanche has it going on! Irresistibly luxurious and seductively posh, with “Translator,” Rachael Blanche hits the sweet spot.
