Renowned for his fusion of R&B, pop, and scintillating electronica, MYRNE introduces his new single, “Forbidden Lovers” via Ultra Records.
“Forbidden Lovers” is about the separation imposed by distance and necessity, and is based on MYRNE’s personal experiences while touring the U.S., with his partner remaining in Singapore. The first single from MYRNE’s upcoming EP, slated to drop later this year, the song reflects his musical flexibility and genius for coloration.
MYRNE explains, “’With ‘Forbidden Lovers,’ I wanted to write about the physical and societal bonds that keep people apart. Some people can’t be with each other because of distance; for some, backward laws keep love forbidden. The idea for the song came to me in a hotel room while on tour, where I was separated from my partner for long periods of time. The two skies in the artwork are pictures we both sent to each other, of Singapore and Los Angeles.”
MYRNE made big international waves with the 2015 release of his Softskins EP via Mad Decent. Two years later, he dropped his groundbreaking electronic-indie LP, B4NGER PROJECT, a collaboration with Gentle Bones via Universal Music, followed by co-producing RL Grime’s “I Wanna Know,” which amassed 30-million streams on Spotify.
Although a bit secluded in Singapore, MYRNE’s popularity has landed him beaucoup live shows throughout the world, including being the first act from Singapore to perform at Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland, as well as playing to SRO audiences in Southeast Asia, China, and the U.S.
“Forbidden Lovers” opens on emerging synths flowing into elegant shimmering colors, as MYRNE’s dreamy, evocative voice glides overhead rife with yearning and urgency. A throbbing, potent rhythm imbues the tune with gleaming muscle, while gentle coruscating textures stream iridescently.
Velvety and cashmere, the harmonics blend percolating flavors with sparkling accents, infusing the music with tantalizing wisps of recollection and warm vibes.
Chock-full of dazzling layers of color, an infectiously alluring rhythm, and the beguiling tones of MYRNE, “Forbidden Lovers” is exquisitely beautiful.
