Los Angeles-based indie electronic artist and producer NASAYA releases his brand-new EP, RÊVES, via Foreign Family Collective.
NASAYA explains, “When I was living in Paris, the change of scenery drew me to start writing some solo music. It felt very liberating for me to write songs on my own. The EP is definitely ‘darker’ and more visceral than songs I’ve previously released. I’ve always wanted to release a project like this because I feel like it’s the only way for me to channel certain emotions – and I feel like this sound is a big part of what I wanted my project to sound like when I originally started it.”
He adds, “I don’t think it’s about anything in particular but it does reflect this state of introspection/dreaminess that I experienced when I first moved to Europe. That’s why I named it ‘REVES’ – it means ‘dreams’ in French.”
Originally from Reunion Island, a French island in the Indian Ocean, NASAYA is bilingual, speaking both French and Creole, and grew up surfing and listing to Led Zeppelin and Nirvana. When he was 12 years old, NASAYA began playing guitar. His singular sound blends elements of jazz, experimental dance music, hip-hop, pop, and classic rock.
Along with features in elite outlets, NASAYA has landed sync deals with Patagonia, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, American Eagle, and Mercedes, as well as producing artists like UMI, Fiji Blue, and Royal & the Serpent.
Comprising four tracks, RÊVES begins with “CIEL,” which opens on gleaming, swirling colors rolling into a pushing dance rhythm topped by jittering layers of luminous textures. The title track travels on percolating washes of sound as dreamy vocals glide overhead, followed by the entry of a deep, rumbling rhythm. Shaded with both light and dark coloration, the tune is at once alluring and captivating.
“RUMMELSBURG” rolls out on heady, glistening tones as delicate vocals imbue the tune with numinous surfaces. A fat bassline and crunching percussion infuse the rhythm with a dynamic, driving rhythm.
“TES YEUX” ties the EP off, delivering hints of hip-hop in the rhythm, as well as alluring pop accents and radiant dance energy.
Sophisticated and brimming with swanky motion, RÊVES pumps out spellbinding overlays of lush glazes riding contagious rhythms.
