Natalie Shay drops new five-track EP NAKED, narrates all the highs, lows and rollercoasters of the life of a 22-year-old.
It’s relatable, vibey and totally heartwarming. Her single entitled “Naked” is full of 80s infused subtlety and comes with gorgeous, romantic visuals, glazed in a taste of bittersweet. Having been selected for Spotify’s New Music Friday Playlist in ten different countries and collecting hundreds of thousands of streams, this London sugar-bomb is racking up a lot of attention – and it’s not shocking as to why. With honeyed vocals, sweet in tone and lyricism, whilst having slightly sticky, but highly relatable themes, the track is utterly moreish. The track is full of clapping drums, deliciously reverberated electric guitar and keys, twinkling synths and echoing, lively backing vocals. Just to put the cherry on top there’s a moonlight, sax which is chilling, sexy and powerful.
The new music video for “Naked” shows Shay, in a stunning dress all glammed up for her wedding day, when all of a sudden she realizes she wants to be free and wishes she hadn’t said yes to a guy on one knee. With a rose-red, retro car, tangerine glowing moon and fairy-tale-love scenes on the beautiful beach of Camber Sands, Shay plays the emotions flawlessly, the fear, the frustration, the feelings of being trapped, yet painfully being in love with someone. The video narrates not wanting to settle at a young age knowing your whole life is in front of you. There is something both freeing and painful about the video. As she longingly looks out to the horizon and moon on the beach seeking to break free, she wears her wedding-dress with a face of fear but excitement.
Perhaps people are looking for love before looking for their life? But what if you never find that kind of love again? “Naked” is the epitome of fearing settling before finding yourself first, and also fearing never finding yourself without that person. The song and video is wonderfully honorable, adventurous and comforting all in one; is a total vibe to listen to.
