It seems like the Hargreaves siblings will be getting another chance to save the world. On April 2nd, Netflix announced that it has renewed The Umbrella Academy for a second season and that Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min are all set to reprise their roles.
The first season focused on the Hargreaves siblings who were all born on the same day to different mothers. They were adopted by a billionaire who, after learning about their abilities, created “The Umbrella Academy” in order to train them to save the world. The siblings become estranged and only reunited after learning of their father’s death. Throughout the season, they try to figure out the mystery behind his death all while attempting to prevent an apocalypse. Of course, like all of our favorite shows, the finale had to end on a major cliffhanger, which Netflix used in their promotional video for season 2.
Ever since the show premiered on Netflix in January, fans have been anxiously waiting to find out what happens next in the series. Some fans have developed theories based on The Umbrella Academy comics written by Gerard Way, but the show has taken some liberties, creating all-new plots and characters. As of now, Netflix has not confirmed the return of other cast members besides the ones mentioned above.
Production for the second season is set to begin this summer in Toronto.
