Eight King Herods have been announced for the upcoming autumn Theatre Royal Drury Lane run of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Golden Globe-winning actor and Emmy-nominated star of Fellow Travelers Matt Bomer will be playing the role from October 16-31, with Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon taking over from November 2-7. Inside No.9 co-creator Reece Shearsmith will be Herod from November 9-14, with drag royalty Bob The Drag Queen starring from November 16-21, and musical legend Michael Ball from November 23-December 5.

Simon Russell Beale will now be starring from December 7-12 (rescheduled from the London Palladium run) whilst comedian Omid Djalili will play the role from December 14-19. Theatre icon Layton Williams will be doing double duty, returning as Herod from December 21-January 2, 2027 after his two week stint at The Palladium. One final Herod for the final week of performances will be revealed in due course.

Jesus Christ Superstar opens at The London Palladium tomorrow night, with singer-songwriter Sam Ryder playing the titular role of Jesus. He will be performing alongside Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate, Bob Harms as Caiaphas, Matty J as Annas and Phil King as Peter.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams and Julian Clary will be sharing the role of King Herod during the Palladium run.

Ahead of the West End opening, recordings of both ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘What’s The Buzz?’ have been released, giving fans a taste of what to expect from this highly anticipated production.

Jesus Christ Superstar is playing The London Palladium for 11 weeks from Saturday, June 20th to Saturday, September 5th 2026 and will extend for a limited 12-week engagement at Theatre Royal Drury Lane from Friday, October 16th 2026 to Saturday, January 9th 2027.
