It’s Friday 13th and the MKTO guys are feeling ‘Superstitious’. The duo have granted us one of our wishes by releasing their new single today, and once again, they’ve delivered a super catchy track!
MKTO, aka Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller, premiered the track through Teen Vogue. Talking about the inspiration behind the song, Tony said: “I met this girl that I really liked one night and I didn’t want to mess it up.”
“I’ve never been superstitious until I met her but all of sudden I found myself so aware of everything.” Unfortunately, he admits that “somewhere along the way I must have stepped on a crack because it didn’t work out.” Talking about their songwriting inspiration in general, Malcolm added that “when they come from a real place, songs just kinda write themselves.”
‘Superstitious’ is the perfect blend of Tony’s gorgeous vocals, Malcolm’s inventive rapping and some clever lyrics. Just to warn you, the chorus in particular will be stuck in your head all day after just one listen!
“You and I, in my mind, don’t nobody pinch me
It’s so good, knock on wood, crossing fingers, baby
We could make it last forever, never look back
Don’t wanna close my eyes and miss this, you got me superstitious”
The guys are probably most known for their smash hit ‘Classic’, and ‘Superstitious’ definitely has a similar vibe. However, there is also a more mature feel to their new music and we believe that ‘Superstitious’ has the potential to not only emulate the success of ‘Classic’, but to catapult MKTO to even greater heights.
‘Superstitious’ follows on from MKTO’s double single ‘Hands Off My Heart/Places You Go’ which was released in March. We love the new era of music from MKTO and we have such high hopes for ‘Superstitious’. Fingers crossed it will be a smash hit for the guys!
