Nick Jonas has teamed up with TIDAL to release an exclusive docuseries. This series will show the road to his upcoming album, Last Year Was Complicated.

Episode one begins with Jonas getting in the shower, and the cameraman calling it a “vulnerable interview” with him “in the raw.”

The first real interview with Jonas takes place in Mammoth Mountain, 102 days before the album release. Jonas is seen on a ski lift talking about his love for “winter wonderlands” and surviving alone outdoors. He claims that he could survive out in the open if it wasn’t for his diabetes.

Jonas also got very candid and personal about how his previous relationships influenced the album.

“There’s no better release for me than creating,” says Jonas. “The minute she left and I was alone in my apartment I was like, ‘I have to come and get out of the city and write’ … I feel like the music is the best therapist I’ve ever had.”

Jonas talks about locking himself away with a small group to write and record in the mountains. He says that he has a sort of romantic relationship with the house, and it is good for him on a personal and creative level to get away.

He reflects on his time in the Jonas Brothers and says that in the end there was a lot of bias toward the band. “I, at some point, need to be able to look at it with a positive angle. It does suck that my 13 to 20-year-old years come with a lot of regret almost in a way.”

The episode flashes to the day before as Jonas was on set of his music video for “Close” with Tove Lo.

“I do my best work when I’m as fearless as possible,” says Jonas. “You have to be willing to go there or it doesn’t work, and fully commit.”

Jonas closes episode one by stating that he is content with any reaction to this deeply personal album. “I could fall flat on my face and be fine because I know I made something that I’m really proud of.”

All further episodes of this docuseries will be found on TIDAL. Nick Jonas will be releasing his upcoming album, Last Year Was Complicated, on June 10.
