Girl Power: A small term that grew in popularity after the British invasion of the Spice Girls. Though they were together for only a short period of time, their influence has inspired artists (even today), to stay confident and to always believe in the impossible.

As cliche as it sounds, this type of motivation is always needed because life as we know it brings constant dramatics. While its been over a good decade since girl power and girl groups were in the mainstream spotlight, Little Mix and Fifth Harmony have set their mark on the music industry.

Sure the media has had fun poking competition between these girl groups but behind the scenes we all know these artists respect and support each other in every way.

In terms of music, the girls’ discography is full of the girl power representation.

Two songs like this are Fifth Harmony’s ‘Miss Movin’ On’ and Little Mix’s ‘Wings’ which are ironically, their first debut singles. ‘Miss Movin’ On’ has the girls stick together mentality while ‘Wings’ displays the empowerment!

These two songs literally helped bring the girl power movement that the Spice Girls brought (later translated through to Destiny’s Child). But this returned movement struck not just locally but worldwide and thankfully, these nine women have brought it back and more fabulous than ever.

Overall, girl groups have it harder than you think. In a world where women are constantly seen as second to men, extra push and work is needed to be recognized at times. But day by day things are slowly changing and hopefully one day women will be respected by EVERY single individual.

For now, let’s continue that respect and celebrate the power of women and of course, girl power back into the mainstream!

Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jesy Nelson, Dinah-Jane, Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello, Normani Kordei- thank you!

Let us know on Twitter how these girls have inspired or perhaps motivated you in any way.

If there’s any other person who’s given you the notion to never give up, don’t hesitate to give them a short and sweet thanks!
