New Music Friday brings us another insanely catchy dance-pop crossover track. For this specific occasion, Dutch DJ Nicky Romero teamed up with American singer-songwriter / actress Olivia Holt to create the just-released song called “Distance”.
Known for her roles in Disney XD’s “Kickin’ It” and Marvel’s “Cloak & Dagger”, Olivia Holt is currently readying her cross-over to the music world. After debuting one of our favorite tracks of 2017 (“Generous”), she was also recently featured on dance bops by R3HAB (“Wrong Move”) and Martin Jenssen (“16 Steps”).
“Distance” is another move in the right direction for the young woman. The cute dance-pop track manages to give her vocals the perfect possibility to shine and show just what she is capable of. Romero’s production lends the song just the right amount of depth and happiness that we are actually quite excited about playing this track in the summer. Even though the emotional lyrics such as “I don’t know how we got lost (…) too far gone, don’t wanna feel this” might disagree.
Talking about the choice of Holt as the lead singer and the making of the track, Romero told Billboard Dance that “[Olivia] has an incredible voice and has been so supportive throughout the entire creative process. The emotion in ‘Distance’ really connected with me from the first time I heard the demo. I know the fans will be able to connect in their own way, which is what inspires me in the first place.”
Still wondering why “Distance” is an instant smash hit? Well, not only does it feature Olivia Holt’s sweet vocals and Nicky Romero’s amazing production but it was also written by greats such as Clea Tighe (known for co-writing Clean Bandit’s “Real Love”), E. Kidd Bogart (Beyonce´s “Halo”), Fabian Lenssen (Major Lazer’s “Cold Water”), as well as production duos Loosechange (Little Mix’s “Touch”), Mojam (HRVY’s “I Wish You Were Here”) and Nicky Romero.
“Distance” is, in total, a very cute bop that manages to nicely capture the feeling of being sad-happy.
