Ahead of his much anticipated appearance at this years Eurovision song contest, Olly Alexander is set to give the residents of Walford the surprise of their lives later this month when he rocks up in Albert Square to reconnect with an old friend…
Having been rehearsing nearby, Olly decides to make a quick pit-stop at The Queen Vic to catch up with Johnny Carter, and is given a “heroes welcome” by Walford well-wishers who are keen to show their support to the multi-award winning singer and actor before his jets off to Malmö, Sweden to compete in this years competition.
In a press release from the BBC, the broadcaster says of the upcoming episode: “In true EastEnders style, Olly’s visit to the Square is not the only surprise of the night, as one Walford resident decides to pop the question having been buoyed up by the celebratory tone of the occasion, but the couple in question and the all-important answer is yet to be revealed…”
Of his upcoming guest-appearance, Olly Alexander says: “I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK. I’m so happy I got to meet some true screen legends and spend time on set with the brilliant cast and crew. I wanted to surprise my mum as it’s her favourite show but I guess the cat is out of the bag now, she’s gonna love it!”
With Eastenders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw adding: “When we discovered that Olly Alexander was a huge fan of the show and an opportunity arose in one of our stories, it was the perfect moment for us to invite him to Albert Square to appear. We hope the audience enjoy Olly’s special guest-appearance as much as everyone at EastEnders enjoyed having him in Walford.”
Olly Alexander – Dizzy | United Kingdom ?? (Official Music Video | Eurovision 2024)
Back in December, it was announced that Olly would be representing the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Written by the It’s A Sin actor and producer Danny L Harle, Alexander’s synth-heavy entry ‘Dizzy’ is an electrifying offering all about the intense and joyous emotion of falling head over heels for someone.
Speaking about the track, Olly said: “I wrote the song last summer with Danny L Harle, we started off with the word ‘Dizzy’ because it just popped into my head and I liked it. I was thinking about fun things that could make you dizzy and I remember saying “dizzy from your kisses” so the song is about feeling such an intense swell of emotion for someone they totally turn your world upside down and inside out.”
Taking inspiration from some of their favourite ’80s artists, Olly continued: “Danny and I believe music should transport you somewhere magical and we wanted to describe this magical place in the song; a place of beautiful gardens, eternal flowers and time turning endlessly in an ecstatic loop. We took the feeling of Dizziness and put that into the production, so there’s a lot of undulating arpeggios, lilting harmonies and counter rhythms in the backing vocals. We were inspired by a lot of music we love from the ’80s, like Erasure, Adamski and of course Pet Shop Boys.”
