On the morning of December 7th, One Direction fans anxiously awaited the official announcement of Grammy Nominations and were very disappointed when the boys of One Direction were not among any list of nominated artists for categories they showed submissions for last month.
Fans were not, and never are, disappointed in Harry, Louis, Liam, and Niall; instead they were let down in the way that each year it seems that the talent and hard work of One Direction is snubbed by The Academy. It’s hard to fathom that they have never been truly considered as a valuable enough part of the music industry to be up for an award as coveted as a grammy; even though it’s shown day in and day out how truly influential they are.
This brought fans back to the age old assumption, and with no pun intended, that a large part of the reason Liam, Niall, Louis, and Harry aren’t taken seriously is because of the unchanged target audience that seems to lack in both age and maturity to people who are only a bit familiar with One Direction.
There is an overwhelmingly large amount of people who still think that the only fans who are interested in One Direction songs are doodling the boys names on notebooks and kissing posters on their walls before they go to bed.
While there is nothing wrong with being young and in love with the idea of a boybander being your prince charming; that is not what fans of One Direction are interested in anymore. That part of their stardom has taken it’s final bow. Fans, in large, of Niall, Harry, Louis, and Liam love One Direction because of their caring hearts, compassionate spirits, and their always growing talent that is shown in every way from their incredible writing to their vocal abilities that bring out a range of emotion in anyone who listens to their songs.
The Grammys, however, don’t care about the giving spirits of the musicians that are nominated, and they shouldn’t as it’s not what this particular award show is about – so this won’t be a piece that focuses on that. What the Grammy’s are about – however – is talent and One Direction has it oozing out of their pores; so why have they again been snubbed when they are so deserving of the award?
We recently complied a piece of 5 Grammy worthy One Direction songs but the truth is, we could have provided you with even more than that.
From One Direction’s album Four, there were a number of songs that were deserving of a grammy but when fans were asked about their favorites – two stuck out above the rest.
Where Do Broken Hearts Go
“So I built you a house from a broken home
And I wrote you a song with the words you spoke
Yeah, it took me some time, but I figured out
How to fix up a heart that I let down”
Where Do Broken Hearts Go was a massive hit with fans of One Direction and non fans alike. It was a song that made listeners question who was behind the incredible show of vocal range, the catchy beat, and addicting lyrics and once they discovered that it was in fact, One Direction, they questioned if they’d been underestimated all along. While fans of Louis, Harry, Liam, and Niall have been long aware of their indescribable talent – casual listeners were honestly very surprised upon hearing WDBHG which served as a harsh testament of how much of One Direction’s hard work is overlooked because of their status as a “boy band”.
Fireproof
“Nobody knows you baby, the way I do
and nobody loves you baby, the way I do.
It’s been so long, it’s been so long – we must be fireproof
cause nobody saves me baby the way you do.”
Fireproof was an instant fan favorite off of Four and through the year after it’s release it remained a song that people can’t stop talking about. The lyrics are sweet, the melody is soft, and the way it shows off the range of the voices of Niall, Liam, Harry, and Louis set up for the absolute perfect love song. Fireproof may not have been an official single off of Four but it definitely shows the world that the boys of One Direction are long overdue for the golden trumpet to be part of their massive award collection.
Other noteworthy songs from Four that fans thought showcased their incredible talent include: Fools Gold, Stockholm Syndrome, and No Control.
Do Louis, Harry, Liam, and Niall need a Grammy to be shown how important they are? Not a chance. One Direction fans make it clear, every single day, how thankful they are and how much they appreciate the boys for not just providing wonderful music – but for providing them with what’s transformed into a way of life.
Niall, Liam, Louis, and Harry don’t need to have their worth proven by another trophy on their mantle or another award under their belt – but for the boys and the fans and the generation of music that One Direction affected (admit it or not) – it’s almost unfair at this point that they’ve still never been given the chance to make it past the submission part of The Grammy Awards process. It doesn’t make sense that with their talent; somehow they’re still missing a vital part of what could have been an incredible way to commemorate the last five years of this first installment of One Direction’s journey.
It speaks volumes though, that the boys weren’t nominated again and none of it reflects on their extreme talent and obvious capabilities to turn out incredible music. If you look at the way everything surrounding One Direction plays out; the fault here continually seems to lie somewhere between where their management team dropped the ball and just kept running without it and where people still believe every fan of One Direction is secretly 13 and awaiting the day they become Mrs. Styles, Tomlinson, Horan, or Payne.
It’s important to note that there are other music legends who were never won a Grammy either; and it didn’t hinder their careers – just as it hasn’t, and won’t, for the boys of One Direction. Musicians like Tupac, The Talking Heads, Katy Perry, Brian McKnight, Nas, and Martina McBride never won the coveted award and either were – or still are – influential to the music industry as we all know it.
So as fans sat with their disappointment today, one thing became more clear now than ever before – this hiatus for One Direction isn’t just a break for the boys. It’s the ability for them to soak in the last five years, to reflect upon their beginning, and to close this chapter up before beginning their new one.
Louis, Harry, Niall, and Liam will be able to come back under new management, with more of their own rules, and hopefully do so to a public that saw what the world of music was like without them, and will respect them a hell of a lot more because of it.
It may not be a Grammy, but Harry, Louis, Liam, and Niall – you have embedded yourselves into the minds, hearts, and spirits of every fan you’ve grown to acquire and we hope to you, that means as much as a golden trumpet would.
