When the music video for One Direction’s ‘History’ premiered; fans were taken on a journey through the most incredible 5 years of teamwork and love between themselves and Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall, and Zayn. With the exception of the absence of a few key clips, the video did the story justice. Looking back on the first chapter of One Direction’s experience was something really important and special – we still feel lucky to be a part of it at all.
After the video was released, an interview was done where Ben Winston and Gabe Turner spoke of the cut ‘ending’ of the video which showed the boys running back to one another after walking off in separate directions at the end of the video. Ben tweeted to Gabe about releasing the clip after ‘History’ took home a BRIT award, and after a conversation about the clip possibly being ‘underwhelming’ – a screen shot of the reason they cut that scene was tweeted.
However, as fans of One Direction, the world underwhelming isn’t something that gets used much. Honestly, they could go through a McDonalds drive through and share a milkshake or a burger and we’d be happy to see that. No seriously, we’d be HAPPY to see that.
Today, Ben decided to give the go-ahead to release the clip where the guys reunite; and while the importance of that may not have been obvious to them, it was more special than words could describe to the fans.
While the boys have promised time and time again that their return is inevitable, the end of ‘History’ which shows them all walking away from each other stung just a bit. While it did look good as far as a clean exit, the clip that shows them in their element, being silly, and running back to each other is more real. It’s more of a look into who they are to not just us, but each other.
We’re pretty grateful that the clip got released. It reminds us of the beginning of the band, long before anyone knew what would happen when 5 boys formed a band on a television show and proceeded to change the world of music, and the hearts of their fans everywhere.
