Fresh from the release of her second solo single ‘Tears’, Perrie catches up with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett OBE on the latest edition of the duos award-winning foodie podcast, Dish from Waitrose.
As well as discussing all things food related, the ‘Forget About Us’ singer opens up about and shares her thoughts on age, preforming solo live, things going wrong on stage, her pre-show ritual, post-show, her parents, her lack of ability to smell, Naked Attraction, getting fit for tour and not eating dairy before singing.
The Little Mix star also talks about the group’s decision to part ways and go solo, taking a break, the writing process solo, working with Ed Sheeran and RAYE, time in the studio, and playing music to her partner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Of the groups metal decision to go solo, Perrie says: “Oh gosh, I think it was a gradual thing. I don’t think it was like an overnight, I’m gonna go solo now, cause I never knew what I would do in my future. I just knew that Little Mix had me tired.”
“We lost a member, and then we were like: ‘well, what do we do now, like, do we keep going? Do we not?’ And then we continued, we did another tour, and then it was kind of like the farewell. And the thing is, like, we love each other and we’re so supportive of each other and we just want to see each other win. So it wasn’t like, do you know what? You’re driving me nuts. I need a break. It was almost like we’ve done this for so long now, we were babies like I was seventeen when I was put in the band.”
Of how she handled suddenly having so much free time post the bands hiatus, the Perrie native adds: “At first I remember we sat at home and we were in a WhatsApp group and we were like: ‘I’m bored. What are you up to today?’ And Leigh-Anne’d be like, ‘I’m actually sick of this.’ And Jade’s like, ‘Yeah, why did we push for this again?’ And I’m like, well, I’m like, ‘We’ve done it now, we have to see it through’.”
“But now I love doing nothing. Like I’m really good at it. Like it’s like, I’m really good. So I don’t think I’d like struggle that much. I love working and I love also not working. So I think it’s a good balance.”
