LA-based singer/songwriter, kennedi muses to herself on alt-pop single ‘apology’.
With writing credits ranging from pop songstresses Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande to EDM figureheads DJ Snake and NOTD, kennedi knows her way around a pop hit. On ‘apology’ the singer strips back production for a bubbling electropop flick.
“After being with somebody for a long time, it’s all you know,” the 21-year-old reflects. “The first time I had an emotional connection and hooked up with somebody else, I felt guilty.”
“I was looking in the mirrors that are actually hung on my ceiling and saw the reflection of myself and this person who wasn’t her. I didn’t necessarily want it to be her, but I felt like I owed her an apology anyway.”
On the track, her first release of 2020 and follow-up on last year’s ‘better’, Kennedi sings, “feel like I owe you an apology, feel like I maybe let you down”.
After years of high profile co-writes, kennedi is fast finding an intimate, ethereal sound of her own. Penning candid takes on mental health struggles, queer identity and past relationships with a bedroom-produced authenticity, exciting times are ahead.
