NYC-based pop artist Lydia Halloway premieres “Dancing To You” on CelebMix. The track is from Halloway’s forthcoming debut EP, Never Meant to Hurt You, slated to drop this Spring.
Halloway explains “Dancing To You,” saying, “This track is about two things at once. It’s about wanting someone’s attention. But it’s also about music itself. If you listen to the chorus, it’s really about how sharing music with someone — dancing with them — can feel like the closest you can ever get. This song is about trying to hold on to that moment.”
Halloway penned the songs on the EP from her hospital bed, where she was recovering from cancer surgery. Unable to sing, she enhanced her knowledge of production and allowed her muse to channel inspiration through her.
“I remember ’22’ by Taylor Swift came on and I just started sobbing, knowing that turning 22 probably wouldn’t be that way at all for me,” says Halloway. “And that’s part of why I wanted to make this EP — it’s full of this music that you can really bounce to. I wanted to capture that feeling for myself. ”
Following her recovery, Halloway performed at open mic nights, enhancing her delivery and the nuances of her lyrics.
“Dancing To You” opens on a contagious groove, sparkling with cool energy. As the dance-flavored pop melody takes over, the buff rhythm pulses with tight momentum, as Halloway’s deliciously buttery tones glow overhead. It’s a soft, velvety voice full of posh timbres and sonic resonance, as well as oozing sensuality and emotional vulnerability. The combination of pushing dance impetus and Halloway’s hypnotic tones gives the tune galvanizing coloration.
Pastel, silky vocal harmonies emphasize the polished residual vibrancy of Halloway’s voice, while simultaneously suffusing the harmonics with misty, gleaming hues.
“Dancing To You” is off-the-chain superb, full of pulsating dance energy, infectious streaming pop flavors, and the mesmerizing voice of Lydia Halloway.
