Synth-pop outfit Missing Words premieres the music video for “Moment To Moment” today on CelebMix. The song is the title track from Missing Words’ debut LP, an album two years in the making.
The end product of an intensely demanding recording process, including numerous recording sessions, long nights in the studio, meticulous mixing and mastering, as well as further production with John Kunkel and Israel Medina, the album is a deeply personal expression.
Missing Words is the musical brainchild of James Meays, a producer from Long Beach, California, who burst onto the scene in 2017, dropping his debut EP, Memories.
According to Meays, “’Moment To Moment’ captures the idea of being stuck, but through it all choosing to persevere.”
The song opens on bright, pulsating synths flowing into an infectious electro-pop melody riding a potent rhythm composed of a fat, throbbing bass line and potent percussion. Highlighted by Meays’ deliciously evocative tenor, infusing the lyrics with intoxicating tones, the vocals soar and glide over the scintillating harmonics.
A shimmering swelling bridge signals the soaring resonant layers of the glowing chorus, full of multiple elevated textures and luminous surface colors.
The video, directed by Brad A. Kinnan, features the talents of Tristan Peach and Raevyn Infinity. The video opens with a man asleep on a bed. When he awakens he’s next to a stream in the woods. Rising he sees a beautiful woman. Bewitched, he follows her, but can’t catch up. He begins to wonder if she’s a fantasy or real. Finding photos, a ring, and a bouquet of flowers, memories overwhelm him. In the end, he wakes up on his bed, alone.
The images in the video depict recollections full of elusive yet powerful emotions.
“Moment To Moment” is superbly wrought, full of glossy burnished harmonics, a tantalizing rhythm, and unforgettably evocative vocals.
