Nick Lopez premieres “Carousel” today on CelebMix. Produced by Dylan Lee, and co-written by Dave Kuncio (Selena Gomez, Ty Dolla $ign) and Dru Decaro (Miguel), the track features glossy stylish vocals and emergent colors.
Hailing from Marin County in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lopez began writing and recording songs while in high school. Local radio stations got their hands of some of the songs and gave the airplay. Other songs ended up online, where they gained a following. In 2016, at the age of 17, Lopez relocated to L.A. and hooked up with A-list producers and songwriters, dropping an EP, along with a few singles. His music scored millions of plays on SoundCloud and Spotify.
“Carousel” opens with oozing synths glowing with a soft energy that builds and flows into a scrumptious electro-pop chorus. EZI’s captivating tones initiate the vocals, followed by Lopez’s appealing tenor. The two voices infuse the tune with tantalizing wisps of lustrous textures that, when blended, exude vivacious harmonies.
The swelling hues of the bridge give the tune an elegant aura of intensity, as Lopez’s tones mount higher and higher atop the blooming sheen of the synths. This three-step pattern – mellow verse, rising bridge, soaring chorus – imbues the song with an assertion of pop vitality that’s infectiously mesmerizing.
The lyrics paint a picture of merry-go-round emotions tilting and wobbling with ever-increasing gyrations.
“We’re going round again / Up and down again / Oh oh / And, we’re going round again / You’re f**king with my head / Oh oh.”
“Carousel” emanates chic pop flavors, as well as swanky vocal coruscations. It’s a sleek buff tune that’s aesthetically pleasing, full of nuanced sonic surfaces. Nick Lopez and EZI definitely know how to strut their stuff.
