Prince Harry has named Sydney as host of the 2018 Invictus Games.
The Prince announced the news via a video posted on the Invictus Games social media pages.
In the video Harry says he was looking for an “iconic city”, with a “proud military heritage” and somewhere that is “sports mad”.
Concluding that it was “an easy decision” to hold the Paralympic-style sporting spectacle in Sydney.
As the announcement comes to an end, Harry’s smartphone rings to the sound of Kylie Minogue’s hit ‘I Should Be So Lucky’.
Greeting the Australian pop princess with a simple “hi Kylie”, Harry then asks if the Aussies are going to “bring it”.
“Hey Prince Harry, listen we’re stoked the Invictus Games is coming to Sydney” replies Miss Minogue.
“But you don’t need to tell the Aussies to bring it – it’s guaranteed, no worries.”
The Invictus Games are a Paralympic-style, sporting event for injured, wounded and sick armed forces veterans.
The event began in London in 2014 and visited Orlando, Florida, in May ahead of Toronto next year.
Prince Harry, who himself served 10 years in the Armed Forces, has been the driving force behind the event.
“The Invictus Games has shown us what can be achieved when wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women rediscover their fighting spirit through sport.” the Prince said.
“In London and again Orlando, we came away moved by the tales of courage… we were all inspired.”
