Rachael Sage is no stranger to baring her soul. Her latest offering, ‘Bravery’s on Fire’ is a song she wrote in response to her diagnosis of and treatment for endometrial cancer. It’s a song about the strength in vulnerability and encourages the listener to be honest with themselves about the times they don’t feel strong. And all the profits from this single will go towards women’s cancer research.
Rachael’s last album followed the same philanthropist principles, as she teamed up with Vision Aid Overseas to provide free glasses and eye tests for people in lower-income countries. This was in keeping with the theme of vision for both Myopia and PseudoMyopia, its acoustic and more vulnerable counterpart.
‘Bravery’s on Fire’ makes use of Rachael’s trademark string section with simple yet beautiful chords all layered beneath her heartfelt and emotional vocals. “I don’t see a superhero when I look in the mirror” sings Rachael in this bare-all ballad about struggling to come to terms with this most devastating illness.
It was a song added to her setlists in the first few performances once she was well enough to tour again and received an overwhelming response from her fans. Yet more proof that Rachael Sage is the mouthpiece for anyone suffering from a lack of confidence and needs reminding that the strongest thing to do in difficult situations is to admit that you are feeling vulnerable.
