With less than a week to go until the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album, Phoenix, Rita Ora has unveiled a new track called ‘Velvet Rope’.
Showcasing her brilliant yet incredibly underrated vocals, ‘Velvet Rope’ is a soulful R&B jam which sees Rita look back at a past relationship gone wrong. “Only yesterday, you were beside me, -side me, now I’m just another one”, Rita sings as she wonders how the relationship deteriorated so quickly.
‘Velvet Rope’ allows Rita’s vocals to take centre stage as the production simply consists of a gentle piano melody. Whilst the track discusses a failed relationship, the melody of the song is uplifting, with a series of handclaps during the chorus and the addition of a choir in the latter half of the song brightening up the track wonderfully.
‘Velvet Rope’ follows in a similar vein to Rita’s last single ‘Let You Love Me’, with both songs showcasing the singer’s vulnerability. With Rita letting her guard down musically, the track is bound to resonate with many who have been in a similar position.

‘Velvet Rope’ is the latest track to be unveiled from Phoenix, which is due for release on November 23. The album will also include Rita’s previous singles ‘Anywhere’, ‘Lonely Together’ with Avicii, ‘Your Song’, ‘For You’ with Liam Payne, ‘Girls’ with Cardi B, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX, and ‘Let You Love Me’.
Rita has been busy teasing other songs from Phoenix on social media, and earlier today whilst sharing a snippet of a track called ‘Cashmere’, she revealed that the track would be released in full tomorrow.
