Sarah Bareilles might be best known for her fun, sweet, pop hits like “Love Song” and “King of Anything”, but she’s taken on an new endeavor recently and has been killing the Broadway scene by writing all the lyrics for a new and upcoming musical, Waitress. And not only that, but she recently saved the entire show (Well, sort of).
The musical is a fun little story about a sweet waitress, stuck in a crappy job and a boring marriage, who fears she’ll have to abandon her dream of owning her own pie shop when she unexpectedly falls pregnant. It isn’t officially out on Broadway yet, but it is in previews, and so far, people seem to be enjoying it.
But of course, previews on Broadway are done for a reason, and that reason is to catch technical difficulties, which do happen from time to time. During the showing on March 30th, an issue arose with a piece of the set, which halted the production for about 30 minutes.
Have no fear though, because lucky for the audience, Sara Bareilles was present, and handled the situation like a pro.
Without a second thought, Bareilles hopped up on stage and treated the crowd to a mini concert, thus saving the day. She sang two songs, including “Part Of Your World” from the Little Mermaid, and an original song from the musical, “Down At The Diner”, which had been cut from the production. The orchestra even lent Bereilles a helping hand by accompanying her with a bit of music. She also hosted a mini Q&A for the audience as a reward for waiting out the technical difficulty. And of course, she snapped a quick Instagram selfie with the crowd.
The issue was quickly solved, and no one seemed to be too upset, including the rest of the cast and crew, who loved the impromptu performance just as much as the audience.
Waitress will hold it’s opening night on April 24th at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City. Thinking about checking it out? Thinking about checking it out? Let us know in the comments or tweet us at @CelebMix.
