Going Stateside to make her US debut at The Fashion Media Awards this year, singer-songwriter Sasha Siem has become the first-ever artist to win the New Wave Artist award, alongside showcasing a stunning performance of a new single from her upcoming album.
Unofficially kicking off the proceedings for New York Fashion Week, The Fashion Media Awards are a star-studded celebration of all things great in the worlds of fashion, media and music. Held at the illustrious Rainbow Room in New York’s Rockefeller Centre, the event saw Siem rub shoulders with celeb royalty, including everyone from model Kate Moss to singer Zendaya, and Siem was one of the icons being honoured at the glittering ceremony.
Kicking off proceedings, Siem performed a song from her upcoming album, in addition to three singles of which have already been released and watched by millions on global digital and social channels. The three singles ‘Holey Wholly Holy’, ‘Eve Eyed’ and ‘Your Song’, have helped her to build an international fanbase whilst gaining critical acclaim, with Siem being hailed as both “A rhapsodic Fiona Apple-meets-Joanna Newsom” and “Contagious and quite affecting”.
Later in the evening, Sasha was recognised as 2019’s New Wave Artist of The Year, to which she scooped the first of its kind for this year. An incredibly poignant moment in Siem’s career, shortly after scooping the gong she said “I’m so deeply humbled to be the ‘New Wave’ artist of the year, and to be included with such an amazing group of talents and legends.”
Further commenting on what a talent this singer-songwriter is, Brandusa Niro, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of The Daily Front Row who are responsible for hosting the awards stated, “We identified Sasha this winter as an up-and-coming artist who commands your attention. She has an incredibly unique, poetic voice and a message that resonates with anyone who listens. She was a natural to receive our first ever ‘New Wave’ award, and a fitting choice to be the only artist we’ve ever invited to sing at the Fashion Media Awards.”
Riding high off the success of her award performance and win, Siem’s Instagram account has skyrocketed with the singer now amassing over a staggering 16k followers on the platform. Plus with the imminent release of her next album, it seems Siem’s successes are about to continue.
