Rising British girl band Say Now continue to make waves this week, with the release of their explosive new single ‘Trouble’ – a fierce, and utterly infectious pop bop that looks set to further cement the groups status as one of the UK’s most exciting new musical acts.
Commenting on the empowering message behind the anthemic track, the trio – made up of Amelia Onourah, Maddie Haynes, Ysabelle Angeli – say in a joint statement: “‘Trouble’ is about knowing your worth and being confident in what you’re bringing to the table! We want people to listen to this song and know that it’s ok to be outspoken, and that you can have fun and be cheeky whilst doing so.”
Crafted by the band themseleves, alongside pop gods Wayne Hector (Sugababes, The Pussycat Dolls), Anya Jones (Little Mix, kamille) and Duck (Halsey, Mimi Webb), the powerful single sees the ladies very cleverly channel the spirit of girl groups that came before them, by sampling legendary 90’s dance hit ‘Unbelievable’ by English alternative rock outfit EMF – a bold move inspired by the mighty Spice Girls.
Of the bold decision to incorporate such an iconic song into their repertoire, the girls say: “When we were writing ‘Trouble’ our producer Duck told us ‘Unbelievable’ inspired ‘Wannabe’, so we thought why not go the extra step and use the actual sample but put our own spin on it.”
In a move that is sure to create even more buzz around the track, its super sassy music video features a cameo from Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle!
Set in a dusty, old jail the clip sees the talented trio detained in a prison cell, shifting between innocent and mischievous versions of themselves in a bid to trick their accuser and the frustrated police officer, played by I Kissed A Girl’s Fiorenza Cocozza.
With choreography courtesy of Blake John Wood (JADE, Kesha) and direction by Favourite Colour: Black, the video concludes with the girls being bailed out by Coyle, who arrives on the scene looking like the ultimate pop ‘MOTHER’.
