Selena Gomez makes her long awaited return to the pop world this week, with the unveiling of her brand new track “Single Soon” – a fun, flirty and empowering pop bop, that serves as Selena’s first solo musical release in almost a year.
Produced by Benny Blanco (Britney Spears, Rihanna) and Cashmere Cat (Kanye West, The Weeknd), the fun “end-of-summer” song finds Gomez in a place of transition – as she trades heartbreak for happiness, following the demise of a long-term relationship.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Sex and the City episode where lead character Carrie Bradshaw is broken up with via a post-it, the songs accompanying music video, directed by Philip Andelman (Zayn, Gwen Stefani, James Bay), opens with Gomez writing a note that reads: “I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me” and leaving it on the desk of an ex-lover.
From there, the star gets glammed up to go on a night out with friends to celebrate her impending freedom! Along the way, the gang partake in a spot of karaoke, dance in the back of a limo, and raise a glass to new beginnings at a fancy dinner.
