Sellah Announces Powerful New Track ‘Open Fire’

Fast rising visionary musician Sellah returns this Friday (February 15th) with his powerful new single ‘Open Fire’. On first listen this track will seem like a break-up anthem, but dig a little deeper and you will learn that the emotive lyrics are dealing with the subject of when Sellah was held at gun point in Nigeria.

The hard hitting single was co-written by Sellah and Vincent Balisciano, produced by Jake Feen and engineered by Sine Factory.

Speaking about the eye-opening subject matter dealt with in the lyrics, Sellah says: “Open Fire was inspired by my experience of being held at gunpoint while in Nigeria some years ago. When you are placed in a life or death situation, unaware of the pending outcome, it is true that your thoughts run through you in a flash. All of the beauty and excitement, and the peaks and valleys of my life, there for me in reflection. The constant stream of thought carrying those moments, was the realization that anything can happen, at any given time, and all of that could be taken away, in an instant. The thought that I, or my travelling companions could’ve lost our lives, just like that; simply by someone making a decision to pull a trigger. I kept thinking how unfair it was, that my fate could be met, by such a fearful and selfish act. That flash of thought, that shot into me that day; though the bullet didn’t. In the spirit of that life reflection, which I now accept as a gift, on top of my continued life, my co writer and I wanted to focus on light and beauty of that dark moment. We took the intensity of that moment, the fear and the reflection, and sought to apply it to other aspects of life. What we came away from that, was “Open Fire”. In life anything can be gone at any second; how much are we really willing to risk?”

‘Open Fire’ is available to pre-save on Spotify now ahead of its Friday release.
