Serena Williams has taken to social media to share the first pictures of her baby daughter.
The tennis star, who is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, gave birth on September 1 however, the couple have kept the baby name quiet until now. Taking to Instagram earlier today, Serena introduced the beautiful Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, who is named after her father, to the world.
Fans were also directed to Serena’s website, where she shared a precious video detailing Alexis’ journey into the world. The video shows the first ultrasound, Serena with her Australian Open trophy (which she won whilst nobody knew she was pregnant), and the changes to Serena’s body during the pregnancy.
At the end of the video, we are finally introduced to Alexis. Serena reveals that she had to stay in hospital for six days thanks to complications during the birth. However, it was all worth it in the end. The final clip clarifies Alexis’ full name, as well as her birth date and weight at birth. We’re also told that she already has a Grand Slam title to her name, something which will surely stand her in good stead to follow in her mother’s footsteps in the future!
Speaking to Vogue earlier this year, Serena was fairly certain that she was having a girl. “Alexis thinks we’re having a boy, but I have a strong suspicion that it’s a girl,” she said. “Two weeks after we found out, I played the Australian Open. I told Alexis it has to be a girl because there I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way.”
Back in August, Serena held a 50’s themed baby shower in Florida. Guests included her sister Venus, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Eva Longoria, and La La Anthony.
