Las Vegas bred and Austin based indie artist Skateland has unleashed his latest single and music video. Entitled “Autobahn!”, the track follows last year’s release of “POSTCARDS” by this rising and exciting new musician.
“Autobahn!” is an autobiographical narrative about Skateland’s experience with true intimacy and connection. He confides that the song is “a dialogue about the hills and valleys of love and relationships. The narrator begins the song with what he presumes is a breakup speech, but somehow along the way concedes that for better or worse he will always love this person, and that the tough parts of loving someone are what make it worth it in the end.” This relatable narrative is brilliantly portrayed with Skateland singing lyrics including “I like you / I hate you” and “here we go again”, showing the cycle of a relationship push and pull and the fears that often coincide with a deep connection.
Skateland has an ability to create expansive and vast music from his bedroom and his new single is no exception. Well crafted harmonies and melodies shine and his echoing vocals also take center stage. Colorful rhythms, sparkly synths and driving beats add to the complexity of the music also mirroring the song’s narrative of the complexity of love. The music video also relays the song’s meaning with it depicting two lovers arguing but ultimately realizing they can’t live without one another.
The multi-instrumentalist has quickly gained a fervent following with his genre-defying tunes. Opening for the likes of Strange Ranger and Say Sue Me, Skateland has been performing his amazing show in front of thousands and the hot new artist is also set to play SXSW.
