Remembered by millions around the world for girl power and Union Jack mini dresses, Geri Horner is back!  The former Spice Girl announced only this morning that she will be releasing her first solo single in 12 years.

Geri explained that her new single, “Angels in Chains”, was written as a tribute to the late George Michael, whom she was a close friend of, and was a way of channeling her grief after George’s untimely passing on Christmas day, 2016.  The global superstar, known as Ginger Spice during her time in the Spice Girls, has spent six months working secretly on the song and will release it on June 23rd – two days before what would have been George Michael’s 54th birthday.

Speaking about the emotional tribute, Geri recalled that she was heavily pregnant when she learned the dreadful news of her friend and idol’s passing, and “couldn’t place” her feelings.  She revealed that she was “so scared” of what people would think about the song, and was highly emotional when writing the song.

Geri will be donating all of the proceeds from her comeback track to the charity ChildLine, which is one of the very many charities that George Michael was said to have supported throughout his lifetime.  After Michael’s passing, Dame Esther Rantzen, founder of the charity ChildLine revealed that George Michael had secretly donated all of the royalties from his single “Jesus to a Child” to the charity.

In an additional tribute to Geri’s dear friend, the former Spice Girl named her baby boy Montague George Hector, more affectionately known as “Monty”, in honor of the late WHAM! member.

Since leaving the Spice Girls back in 1998, Geri has had four number one hits in the UK singles chart, and even appeared as the fourth judge on the popular talent show “Australia’s Got Talent”.

We here at CelebMix are so excited to hear what will likely be a very beautiful and emotional track, and are super excited that Ginger Spice is back after her 12-year hiatus to bring us some more girl power!
