As all of you know, (and have been anxiously awaiting) Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is being shown in theaters all over the world! FINALLY!!
The Walt Disney blockbuster hit $31.4 million on just it’s eleventh day of release. Pretty insane, right? But no surprise either. It’s become the second biggest Monday gross of all time.
Now I’m sure you’re wondering, what’s the first? Well… Day four of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens release (December 21st, 2015) made a total of over $40 million. Which means that the adventurous sci-fi is now held to be the first AND second biggest Monday grosses EVER – even topping another famous Walt Disney blockbuster, Avatar.
According to Forbes, the film overall has earned a whopping $571.4 million and is predicted to be the fifth film to cross the $600m mark. It’s already grossed $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales within the first 12 days, marking it as the fastest movie in history to hit $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It might even creep into the $2 billion gross considering China’s opening of the film has not happened yet.
With the upcoming week, the film will undoubtedly surpass the beautiful tragedy that is Titanic at $658m and most likely break Avatar’s exceptional record of $760m.
