Steve Lacy is back.
The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer has released ‘the feeling’, a tender and introspective new single that serves as the latest preview of his forthcoming third studio album, ‘Oh Yeah?’, due out July 17th via RCA Records.
Arriving alongside a surreal visual directed by Matthew Castellanos, ‘the feeling’ finds Lacy leaning into vulnerability over a sparse arrangement built around acoustic guitar, subtle funk textures, and his unmistakable falsetto. The track captures the uncertainty and longing of a relationship hanging in the balance, with ‘Dark Red’ hitmaker repeatedly searching for reassurance as he navigates emotional ambiguity.
While the infectious hooks of ‘Gemini Rights’ breakout ‘Bad Habit’ propelled him into mainstream stardom, ‘the feeling’ takes a more restrained approach. Rather than chasing immediacy, the song unfolds slowly, allowing its emotional weight to settle through understated production and reflective lyricism.
The accompanying video mirrors the song’s dreamlike atmosphere. Floating between darkness and light, Lacy appears in a series of psychedelic, abstract scenes that blur the line between reality and imagination. At various moments, his disembodied head drifts through empty space, reinforcing the track’s themes of emotional dislocation and uncertainty.

The single marks Lacy’s first major release of 2026 and signals the beginning of a new creative chapter following the success of ‘Gemini Rights’, which earned widespread acclaim and helped establish him as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary R&B and alternative music.
According to early details surrounding ‘Oh Yeah?’, Steve once again played a central role in shaping the album’s sound and creative direction. If ‘the feeling’ is any indication, fans can expect a project that embraces intimacy and experimentation in equal measure.
With the LP arriving next month, ‘the feeling’ offers an intriguing glimpse into where Lacy’s artistic evolution is headed – one that appears less concerned with viral moments and more focused on emotional honesty.
