The Influence of Music: From Fun to Potential Hazards

Music is a complex idea and sometimes it is quite difficult to explain it. It is evident that everyone enjoys some form of music, depending on different factors, such as behavior, general knowledge, educational level, intellect, etc.

There is a valid connection between music and intellect that may surprise some. The more quality music you listen to, the more your mind gets influenced by this mystique type of art. Maybe that’s why renowned philosopher Confucius believed that only those who understand what music is, deserve being on the throne and govern a country.

With this being said, music may also cause some negative consequences. For sure, it can heal but it can also lead to potential hazards, depression, and anxiety. Don’t be surprised, because everything in life comes with positive and negative effects, and usually, it is not about those things but how we consume them and how we use the gifts of life for the right purposes. In the following article, we discuss how music influences our body and mind, how it affects our well-being, and in which cases it might cause negative consequences.

Gaming? Headphones On; Gambling? Let’s Think About It

Even though we enjoy our favorite albums and playlists in general, there are some activities in life that it feels like those require some music to be accompanied. The first on the list is gaming. Why the first, because gamers not only listen to, let’s say, external music while playing a video game, but also “native music” coming from the game. You get into a car, and electronic music starts playing in your ears. Enjoy the ride!

There are some studies about the importance of music in video games, and it’s pretty much convincing how the right music may affect gamers’ emotions, giving them a better experience and a sense of presence in the game. Moreover, depending on the game, you may hear various genres in video games, including instrumental, jazz, hip-hop, and so on.

Well, sometimes gaming is all about an immersive experience. But what if you are in a serious game? Let’s bring up the example of casino games or more specifically, online poker. When people are thinking and analyzing, music can distract them. However, many other games don’t require all your focus and strategic thinking. When you play online slots the background music may make you feel better and even more focused. On top of this, as in the case of video gaming, it may double the gaming experience and emotions, especially if you are a fan of electronic music.

Workouts May Require Music or Silence

Physical activities need to be accompanied by vibrant and energetic music. There are many mobile applications offering workout services, and they usually create specific playlists for the users to make the workout more fun. Even when you go to the gym you hear these beats coming from the speakers.

However, consider thinking thoroughly about wearing headphones depending on your workout type. You may have noticed that outdoor running has become popular among people who want to have an active lifestyle. Approximately 50 million Americans engage in running as part of their fitness routines. This is awesome, but most of them are also wearing headphones, and some of them have the noise cancellation function on their headphones, which leads to hundreds of fatal accidents on the streets.

Reports show that in the majority of cases, the cars were honking, but because of the isolating headphones or the loud music accident happened. It is totally understandable that running on the streets on your own can be boring, but try to avoid listening to music. Maybe just wander around and remember that taking care of our health becomes meaningless when we avoid safety.

You May Sleep Better, or You May Lose Your Sleep

As mentioned in the beginning, every coin has two sides, and both must be considered. Many people listen to music before sleeping. Music streaming services create special playlists for bedtime, but this experience is not necessarily good.

Despite the positive facts in favor of listening to music before sleep, there are also some worries about it, and the reasons differ. First, some people wear headphones, which means the music may be playing while they are already asleep. Especially if it plays loudly, problems with hearing can be expected. Secondly, when you sleep under music, your brain continues processing it over and over again. In fact, some people wake up in the middle of the night distracted by the song stuck in their heads.

Furthermore, choosing a suitable playlist and adjusting the volume are important considerations before falling asleep. Overall, music is one of the best gifts to us and it definitely has way too more positive than adverse effects.
