The Vamps are no strangers to Radio 1’s Live Lounge, having last visited in 2016 they made their return yesterday (14th August) to perform two tracks.
On their last visit, they teamed up with Matoma to perform their track All Night and a cover of Fifth Harmony‘s That’s My Girl. In typical live lounge style, yesterday’s visit saw them performing latest single Just My Type and an incredible cover of George Ezra’s Shotgun.
Just My Type was stripped back and given the great addition of a choir of backing singers providing captivating harmonies complimenting Brad Simpson’s vocals. It’s great to see the funky track gain a new level of emotion and sincerity whilst still maintaining the funky riffs we love. As Clara Amfo summed it up there was a ‘Sixties, ska, reggae, Beatles kind of vibe‘ shown off. We’ve always loved the Live Lounge sessions as it gives a chance for artists to show off a new side to them and highlights just how talented they truly are.
For their cover the quartet took on George Ezra’s summer smash hit Shotgun, which lets be honest was a brave move considering how loved the track is. It’s safe to say though they smashed it. Giving it a slower, relaxed tempo the perfected group clapping during the chorus worked flawlessly alongside Tristan Evan’s driving drumlines. A choir is a new addition to the quartet’s sound which they recently showed off on For You taken from the Day edition of Night & Day. Petition for more choir features, we think so! The Vamps have given this their own magical touch and honestly, we can’t stop listening to this on repeat.
We know they’ve just left but we can’t wait for The Vamps to continue heading back in the Live Lounge to give us new takes on some of our favourite tracks. To hear the session in full head here.
