The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show has announced The Weeknd as the headline performer for this year. The superstar singer broke the exciting news on his social media today.
He first began teasing an announcement last night with a cryptic video post, followed by another one this morning, leaving fans on the edge of their seat for what was sure to come.
The 55th Super Bowl will air on February 7, 2021, in Tampa Bay, Florida, where The Weeknd will be taking one of the biggest stages in music. The Pepsi Halftime Show has a long list of iconic performers, including last year’s pairing of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. These performances are often extravagant and feature high profile special guests to give the millions watching at home the best show possible.
The Weeknd is coming off a hugely successful year with the release of his latest album, After Hours. His singles “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights” have been smash hits as well. The latter of the two topped the Billboard Hot 100 in April and won big at the MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year and Best R&B. The singer also leads artists in nominations for the upcoming American Music Awards, airing on November 22. His highly anticipated After Hours Tour, which was supposed to kick off this fall, has been postponed until 2021, signally another year of success up ahead for the singer.
