Tom Holland, star of stage and screen best known for his upcoming role as Spiderman in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and the currently in production Spiderman reboot Spiderman: Homecoming, has confessed that he found himself terrified at the prospect of working with Robert Downey Jr, aka Iron Man.
Speaking at the premier of Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland had this to say about meeting Mr. Downey Jr:
“I first met him at my first screen test and obviously I thought Robert was terrifying but once I met him, he was down to earth, really cool and easy going. We got on really well and we work very well together. I’m just so happy these guys gave me the opportunity.”
The 19 year old actor will make his Marvel Debut in Civil War alongside Robert, and Robert was recently announced to be joining Tom in the Spiderman Solo film, a casting announcement that some fans dubbed a spoiler as it dropped a massive hint on how Captain America: Civil War, which will see Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Chris Evan’s Captain America go head to head in a colossal battle that will see not just fans, but other Marvel Superheroes like Paul Rudd’s Antman and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow take sides!
Tom described attending the premiere in London, where he was born and raised, and taking up the mantle of Spiderman as a “dream”.
“The crazy thing is this is where I buy my clothes, and now here we are at the red carpet of ‘Civil War’, I could never have dreamed of being here. I am so happy this has happened …
“I mean obviously yes, it was quite nerve wracking at first, but these guys are so welcoming and so cool that I immediately felt like I was at home and I was part of something really amazing.”
Tom made his name as one the titular stars of the musical Billy Elliot, the musical which also gave big breaks to Game of Thrones star Dean Charles Chapman and Bad Education‘s Layton Williams!
Captain America: Civil War is released in the UK this Friday, and in other territories in the coming weeks. After that, you can next see Tom Holland’s well loved web slinger in Spiderman: Homecoming, released next year.
