After Elizabeth Banks pulled out of directing Pitch Perfect 3 earlier this year, fans have been waiting to hear who would take her place. Today it has been announced that Trish Sie will be the leader of the third film in the franchise.
The hunt for a new director for Pitch Perfect 3 began when Elizabeth Banks backed out of directing the film after making her debut as a director on Pitch Perfect 2. Due to the production and planning of the third film taking longer than expected, Banks felt she should not take on the directing role as it would affect and disturb her parental duties to her two sons.
Nevertheless, Elizabeth will still be returning to the franchise as her character, Gail. She will also be resuming her role as a producer: her role in the first Pitch Perfect film.
Similarly to Elizabeth, Trish Sie is relatively new to the director’s seat having previously only directed one movie. She made her directorial debut in Step Up: All In, the fifth film of the Step Up series, in 2014. With no other credits, Pitch Perfect 3 will be her second major director role.
Sie will be directing returning stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and Hailee Steinfeld in the follow-up movie.
However, the film has had to survive several changes to the release date as well as a change of director. When it was first announced, Pitch Perfect 3 was set to hit theatres on July 21st 2017. This date was then moved to August 4th but was changed again and, as of now, is December 22nd 2017.
