A couple of weeks ago, we unveiled an unbelievable opportunity for up-and-coming performers based in the UK. CelebMix teamed up with Magnitude Live to find a performer to open the Magnitude Live event which takes place on 18 March at Newcastle’s Northumbria Institute.
First up, we asked for artists to contact us, sending a clip of them performing and why they wanted to perform at the event, which will feature artists such as Emily Middlemas, Bailey McConnell, Mikey Bromley, headline act Grace Davies, and many others.
Following this, we then asked our readers to vote for who they thought deserved to perform. The five acts shortlisted were: Danny Wright, Luna Fall, Unscripted, Ty Lewis and Lucy Whittaker. We were absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of votes received. The three acts who received the most votes are as follows:
Ty Lewis – 1368 Votes
UnScripted – 1182 Votes
Danny Wright – 455 Votes
Ty Lewis will thus be the opening act for Magnitude Live, with a phenomenal 1368 votes received.
You can check out Ty Lewis’ cover of James Arthur’s track ‘Naked’ below:
We had the chance to speak to Ty Lewis about how it felt to win this competition and what can be expected of his set later this month at the event.
First up, huge congratulations on winning the opening slot for Magnitude Live! How does it feel knowing that you will be opening the Magnitude Live event?
‘Thank you so much. I can’t really believe it to be honest, but I’m so honoured and grateful to have made the shortlist, and winning the competition has topped it all off for me. When I first saw the artists I was up against, I thought I had no chance, so I’m over the moon to have won, and I’m so excited to get up on that stage and open for such an amazing line-up.’
Are there any artists in particular you are most looking forward to seeing perform?
‘I can’t wait to see Grace perform, as I absolutely loved her on ‘The X Factor’ and her original songs are amazing! I’m also looking forward to seeing Call on Sunday, as I’ve seen them a few times before and they always put on a great show!’
What can the audience expect from your performance?
‘Hopefully they’ll enjoy it, but they can expect a mix of slow and upbeat songs, and they better be ready to sing along.’
Finally, have you got a message for everyone who voted for you?
‘Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to everyone who voted, shared and spammed the hashtag! I couldn’t have done it without you all and I hope to see some of you there!’
Once again, huge congratulations to Ty Lewis! Also, we also want to say a massive thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, and to everyone who voted!
