Breezy dance-pop has never sounded so good until now with the awesome new single drop from Vicetone, titled “Dopamine Junkie”, which features Ben Samama. The song has been released ahead of the DJ duo’s forthcoming EP, titled “Departing Reality”. This single release is the follow-up to Vicetone’s single “Tomorrow Never Comes” and Ben Samama’s collaboration with Lucas Estrada and Solar State on the single “That Could Be Us”.
Vicetone are a Dutch DJ duo consisting of Ruben Den Boer and Victor Pool. They have made the list of the Top 100 DJs in DJ Mag consecutively from 2013 – 2015 and returned to the list in 2019 for the year, although we reckon they’ll reappear on the list again soon. They have earned over 1 billion streams combined across platforms to date, bringing dance music to lovers all over the world. They have had a variety of successes including charting on the US Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart at number 23 with their song “Something Strange” which featured Haley Reinhart. Their most-streamed Spotify song to date is “Astronomia” in collaboration with Tony Igy which has over 310 million streams and has gone on to chart globally and been certified platinum and gold in Sweden, Norway, Italy, Germany, France, Poland, and Denmark; with their single “Nevada” featuring Cozi Zuehlsdorff behind at 213 million streams, on the platform. They have released tonnes of singles and have worked with the likes of Nicky Romero, Collin McLoughlin, Foster The People, and Allie X; whilst they have remixed singles for the likes of Adele, Cash Cash, Maroon 5, Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa, Kelly Clarkson, and Alesso. They’re certainly making their name known in the music industry and they’re bound to go viral again with another one of their songs soon.
As for Ben Samama, he is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and producer. He is a prolific artist, having managed to receive radio plays worldwide. He is responsible for over a few billion streams, not only on his own music releases but as part of being a co-writer and co-producer on huge tracks from global artists working with the likes of ATB, Taeyeon, Vintage Culture, Meduza, B.I, Bipolar Sunshine, Afgan, Monsta X, and Kang Daniel. He also has a link with Eurovision, having been one of the co-producers for the hit song “Snap” by Rosa Linn, which went viral months after the song contest. His most-streamed track on Spotify so far is his feature on the Meduza and Vintage Culture single, titled “Under Pressure”, which currently has 9.8 million streams on the platform, with his collaboration with ATB, titled “Like That”, behind at 4.6 million streams. He certainly knows how to write and produce hit songs, so we’re excited to see what the future brings for him, no doubt he’ll be a name we’ll consistently come across.
Written by Ben Samama, Rachel Kanner, Ruben Christopher Den Boer, and Victor Pool, while it has been produced by the artists themselves, “Dopamine Junkie” is a melodic summer-breeze dance-pop track that spotlight’s Ben Samama’s gorgeous male vocals whilst infusing infectious groovy beats around a crazy dance melody. The duo impresses to no end – something we’ve started to expect from Vicetone as they seriously are on top of their game – as we hear gentle undulating beats around soulful emotive vocals that takes the pure essence of a lover of dance music and implant it into a song to which the dance music lover is listening to. It’s a trip and a half and that’s before we even hit the addictive drop that brings in mainstream pop beats around Ben Samama’s repetitive “ooh” lyric that will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
Talking about this track, Vicetone said: “This record is all about that rush or dopamine that overcomes you when the drop hits just right. Our goal was to have the melodies constantly entrancing you all throughout the song. We love the combination of the bassline, guitars, piano, and vocals to make a very groovy yet still Vicetone-sounding dance record.”
