Avril Lavigne is back with her awesome new single “Head Above Water”, showing off her incredible vocals after her battle with Lyme Disease. She recently dropped the beautiful accompanying music video, that was filmed in Iceland, and she also performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as part of the Mercedes-Benz Concert Series.
This is Avril Lavigne’s first television performance in years, and she has just proved how amazing her voice is. The song itself is about her struggle with Lyme Disease, describing her near-death experience and how she felt like she was drowning. “I’m too young to fall asleep” sings Avril Lavigne, sending out empowering vibes on stage.
The track is one of our favourites, but Avril Lavigne completely nails it live. Her performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! entrances us all. Her vulnerability and vigour are clear, she fought for her life and lived to tell the tale, and now she’s sending a positive message out to the audience, and it’s humble to see.
For the TV show, she donned a draped white dress, that is similar to the dress she wore in her new music video, and she styled it out with some combat boots – keeping to her rock image. Her hair is as lusciously blonde as ever, with two strong plaits running down from either side of her stunning face – which is the same stylisation of the music video.
This is one live performance that we could watch on a loop; Avril Lavigne’s vocals are fire, she pours her heart and soul into every single word, and her backing band emphasises the aura of the song, sending out strength and power to every single listener. We hope to see more live performances, and we dream of the day when we see her perform live at a concert.
