Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the mastermind behind “Top Gun: Maverick,” and backed by heavy hitters like Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Brad Pitt, and Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton (Dawn Apollo Films ), this film is gearing up to be one wild ride. The movie is set for international release in theatres and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 25, 2025, and in North America on June 27, 2025.
Here’s everything you need to know about the highly anticipated “F1”.
Star-Studded Cast and Plot
Brad Pitt takes on the role of the charming Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver making a Hollywood-style comeback to the fast-paced world of Formula 1. Riding shotgun is Damson Idris, portraying the rookie sensation Joshua “Noah” Pearce at the make-believe APXGP team —a fictional 11th team on the grid. The adrenaline-fueled scenes, as seen in the official teaser dropped on June 8, were shot at real F1 events, including the recent British Grand Prix. But don’t just take our word for it—check out the teaser yourself in the video below!
The film also features an impressive cast including Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, Callie Cooke, Shea Whigham, Joseph Balderrama, and Samson Kayo. Additionally, all ten Formula One team, drivers and team members, including Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz Jr., Sergio Pérez, and Benoit Treluyer will appear as themselves.
Plot: Sonny Hayes, an F1 driver who raced in the 1990s, has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce on the Expensify Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).
Hamilton’s Enthusiasm and Behind-the-Scenes Action
Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 champ and now co-producer, has expressed his enthusiasm over Apple Original Films’ upcoming movie. At a press conference at Silverstone, he revealed what makes “F1” a must-watch: “It’s massively exciting to see it all coming together.”
“To know that we’re [filming] this weekend… There’s nerves, naturally, because it’s something we’ve been working on for so long. We want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about – that’s our goal and I hope we can do you proud,” he said.
Hamilton didn’t just sit in the director’s chair; he rolled up his sleeves to ensure every shot hit the mark. From camera placements to capturing the heart-pounding action, he’s teamed up with Kosinski to give viewers a front-row seat to the drama—think “Top Gun: Maverick” meets the adrenaline rush of the F1 track.
Asked about how Formula 1 has opened its doors to accommodate the film, and how pleased he is to see the entire sport embracing the project, Hamilton added: “I’ve been incredibly grateful to them. We’ve already seen the great work and impact of the Netflix show [Drive To Survive] and I think this will take it to new heights beyond that.
“There’s so many people around the world that are so excited about this sport, wanting to learn more. The fact that we’ll have all the original characters that are actually on the grid, and then Brad Pitt, is pretty cool!”
