On Friday night, Lilly Singh made a huge announcement while appearing on the Tonight Show. She’s writing her first book, called How to be a Bawse, which comes out on March 28, 2017!
The book is a how-to guide, meant to help readers not just survive, but conquer life. Lilly is writing the book completely by herself, and every detail, even down to the colouring, is said to be selected by her.
Lilly said the following about How To Be Bawse:
I am so thrilled to write my first book and share, all in one place, what I’ve learned about achieving success and happiness. This journey has taught me to always pick yourself up, not allow anything to stand in your way and that the only secret to achieving your dreams is hard work.
Today, she released a promotional video for the book on her channel. With a high production value, powerful concept, and great execution, it is one of the most emotional and intense book trailers out there.
The trailer is themed around a boxing match between Lilly and what presumably represents her insecurities and problems. Lilly gets beat up by life, by herself, and thinks it’s the end. She then finds the strength and the motivation to get up, to be a Bawse and keep fighting. This is what sparked some of her greatest achievements. She then goes on to knock out her fear, doubt and failure which ultimately leads her to success. The whole trailer is shot and edited together beautifully. Lilly’s voiceover is full of passion and emotion, and is what really ties the video together.

She also posted a behind the scenes video of the physically demanding shoot for this trailer, where she was running on only 3 hours sleep!
As Lilly’s good friend HumbleThePoet said in the behind the scenes video, “if you want to do something extraordinary, you have to put in an extraordinary amount of effort.” It is evident that Lilly worked tirelessly on this video, from the creative concept, to the exhausting shoot, to making sure the final product was up to par. She poured her full effort, time, and both physical and mental strength into the making of this trailer, and her book. Her nerves before the trailer released showed just how much she cares about this project.

Overall, this book is bound to change and greatly impact many lives. It will inspire us to fight through our toughest battles, and come out smiling on the other side. In the words of the Bawse herself: “Success, happiness and everything else you want in life needs to be fought for – not wished for.”
