Since joining The X Factor panel and replacing Louis Walsh as a judge earlier this year, radio 1 DJ, Nick Grimshaw has come in for a bit of stick from “fans” saying that he isn’t a good judge, he can’t sing so he shouldn’t be on the panel etc.
But I believe this is very unfair criticism of the 31 year old, Nick is likeable, down to earth and very knowledgeable of the music industry.
Every judge on the new panel brings something different to the table. Simon Cowell is a record executive so he know what it takes to sell records, and who will connect with the audience.
Rita Ora is one of Britain’s most successful female artists, so she knows what it takes to make it in the tough industry, plus she was a mentor on The Voice UK, so she has experience mentoring new artists.
While Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, won the TV talent show Popstars The Rivals and went on to become 1/5 of Britain’s most successful girl group Girls Aloud, and last year she became the first female artist to get five number 1 records, so she brings a wealth of knowledge of what it takes to be part of a hugely successful group, and be a record breaking solo star, plus what it takes to compete and win an extremely tough TV talent contest.
And Nick Grimshaw being a radio DJ, knows what songs sound good, what people are listening to at the moment and what types of artists should be singing certain tracks.
Since the age of just 17, Grimmy has worked in the music industry starting out at a record label, before becoming a successful radio DJ, and has also carved out a career as a TV presenter with jobs on shows such as T4, Children In Need and The One Show.
Nick does not only have an in depth knowledge of what type of music sells, and what the public want played on the radio, but he is also warm and funny.
Since joining the X Factor, with fellow new judge and best mate Rita, Grimmers has struck up a close bond with new show producer and senior judge,Cheryl, who has recently stuck up for Nick saying “I love Him” And show boss Simon has also been happy with the way he has come across on the panel.
Mentoring the boy’s category, Grimshaw has grown into the role and comes across great, this year the panel is current, fun and knowledgeable.
The X Factor continues this weekend starting on Saturday from 8pm.
