Talking about the track, Yellow Claw said: “We met up with Shachi when we did a show in Tokyo. Airdropped her the beat, and she sent us the vocals a couple of days later. All the Japanese lyrics are really like a painting with words to us. We don’t know what they mean, but they sound so good.”
Written by Fumi Mogi, Jim Taihuttu, Nils Rondhuis, Putri Estiani, Uladzislau Kouchuk, and Uladzislau Kulbitski, whilst it has been produced by Yellow Claw themselves, “Hey Sensei” is a progressive trap house track with addicting rap lyrics by SHACHI in Japanese that adds flavour and an over lining groove. As we lead into the drop, Yellow Claw builds anticipation before surprising us with xylophone beats and mechanical synths which gives a dreamy flare that matches the Japanese flow from SHACHI. It’s an unexpected, genre-bending fusion that really shows that Yellow Claw really is on top form. As the second verse kicks in, SHACHI impresses with her English rap that leads into Japanese with her sweet vocals and hard-hitting lyrics that really show she’s ready for worldwide success.
The single release also comes with five variety versions such as the slowed down and sped up versions, the instrumental, and the incredible acapella version.
