YouTube has announced that it has ordered a second season of its critically-acclaimed hit series Cobra Kai from Sony Pictures Television and Overbrook Entertainment.
The show is a 10-episode, half-hour series based on the iconic Karate Kid franchise and takes place 30 years after the events of the original The Karate Kid movie, which starred Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. Both Macchio and Zabka reprised their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence for the 2018 series and will also return for the show’s second season, which is set to begin production this fall.
News of the show’s renewal comes just days after Cobra Kai premiered on May 4th. The first episode, which is available to all YouTuber viewers for free, has generated over 20 million views. The show’s popularity is a result of its decades-long franchise, which has entertained viewers for over three generations.
Speaking about the new series’s success, Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content at YouTube, says, “This series had all of the right elements from the very beginning — compelling characters, a storied rivalry, and the talented original stars.”
As well as Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, series regulars Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, and Courtney Henggeler will also be returning for Cobra Kai‘s season two.
The second season of ‘Cobra Kai’ is set to debut on YouTube Red in 2019. You can watch the first season by clicking here.
