It’s that time of the week again where we put a spotlight on a certain YouTuber. Last time, we celebrated the wonderful videos of Lilly Ahlberg. This week however, the YouTuber of the Week crown goes to Miranda Sings! (So haters, back off.)
Who is Miranda Sings?
Miranda Sings is a fictional character portrayed by Colleen Ballinger, who is also a well known YouTuber herself. Colleen came up with the character of Miranda in 2008, as a satire of the numerous bad singers who believe that they will find fame and fortune by posting videos on YouTube despite the comments they may receive. Miranda Sings has over 7.2 million subscribers, also known as Mirfandas, on YouTube, and over a BILLION views across her videos, which is absolutely incredible.
Despite being a fictional character, Miranda Sings has blown up as a personality in her own right. In 2015, she released her Selp-Helf book, described as a “decidedly unhelpful, candid, hilarious ‘how-to’ guide”. It debuted at number one on the Publishers Weekly Hardcover Non-Fiction best sellers list and remained on the Times Best Seller list for “Advice & Misc.” for 11 weeks. An app was also launched called Miranda Sings vs Haters, which was a hidden object game.
Earlier this year, Miranda appeared on the cover of Variety Magazine, in support of her Netflix original series Haters Back Off, which was released globally on October 14. She has also toured the globe with her live shows, including the ‘Selp-Helf’ tour and the ‘Miranda 4 Precident’ tour. It seems that the world can’t get enough of this overly confident, unique character!
Why you should watch Miranda Sings’ videos
Whilst Colleen created Miranda Sings to be an obnoxious, narcissistic character with a penchant for red ‘lisstick’, Miranda has captured the public’s attention with her hilarious videos. Not only has she gained hundreds and thousands of Mirfandas, she’s also got numerous baes too – we’re a bit jealous.
On her channel, you will find tutorials, challenges, how-to guides, reaction videos, covers, collabs and so much more. Occasionally, Miranda will also collab with Colleen, which truly confuses those who don’t realise that they’re actually the same person!
Although some people ridicule the character of Miranda, we think that she can teach us all something. Miranda is overly confident, which isn’t always a good thing, however, she truly doesn’t give two hoots about what anyone thinks of her. In her own way, she teaches others to embrace their weird side and that it’s okay to be themselves.
Here’s just five of Miranda’s many videos that you need to watch.
1. Shake It Off
Miranda’s cover of ‘Shake It Off’ is her most watched video, with over 55 million views! She channels every one of Taylor’s outfits from the original video, and even tries to cover up the twerkers because they’re too risque, obvs.

2. How To Take A Perfect Selfie
Miranda has apparently never taken a bad selfie in her life. This automatically makes her the best candidate to tell us all how to take a perfect selfie! From angles to filters, props to captions, she’s got it all covered.
3. Blindfolded Make Up Challenge
Miranda teams up with Lilly Singh, aka our first ever YouTuber of the Week iiSuperwomanii, during one of her most recent videos. They’re no strangers to collaborating together, but during this video, Miranda gives Lilly a bit of a makeover…
4. Miranda Gives Tori Kelly a Voice Lesson
Miranda decides to check in with singer Tori Kelly, who’s been her vocal student for years. Of course, Tori doesn’t quite reach Miranda’s standards, but she’s at hand to help Tori improve her techniques. It’s a miracle what a bit of ‘lisstick’ can do…
5. Anaconda
This is our all-time favourite Miranda Sings video. At the request of her Mirfandas, she does a cover of Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’. The result is absolutely hilarious! Make sure you keep watching right to the end.
We also had to include an extra video from Colleen’s channel, where Miranda gives Colleen a voice lesson. We always love it when Colleen brings both personas together during videos!
Make sure you subscribe to Miranda Sings on YouTube (and give Colleen some love on her personal channel too)! Congrats to Miranda Sings for claiming the title of YouTuber of the Week this week.
