YUNGBLUD is back with a new track called ‘Hope for the Underrated Youth’, which was unveiled following his London takeover on the weekend.
On Saturday, the Yorkshire singer-songwriter caused mayhem along the River Thames after inviting lucky fans on board the ‘YUNGBLUD Cruise’, where he treated them to a live performance of fan favourite tracks.
Following the cruise, he delivered a megaphoned speech against the backdrop of the Houses of Parliament. YUNGBLUD is never one to shy away from issues which affect his generation and whilst delivering his speech, the words “There’s hope for the underrated youth” were projected onto the iconic building.
On Monday night, ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’ received its first play as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on Radio 1. YUNGBLUD was welcomed outside of the studios by hoards of fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of the artist, and he even took them to Nandos!
Written and produced by YUNGBLUD, real name Dominic Harrison, with addition production from Zakk Cervini and Chris Greatti, ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’ explores the idea of the artist’s generation being misunderstood and underestimated.
Speaking about the track, YUNGBLUD stated: “The world right now tells us fall in line, it tells us what you’re allowed to care about, think about, even to the point what air you should fucking breathe. Things are changing drastically, a lot of the time not for the better and it’s hard to watch. I meet so many young people everyday and the one common denominator I find is the constant fire to defy apathy and the optimism to do anything in your power to fight for a better, more equal world.”
“This song is about freedom of speech. This song is about freedom of expression. This song is about the forward thinking, racism hating, LGBTQ+, liberal “sinners” that we all are. I see that there is hope for this “underrated youth” and I believe the future looks bright because we are in it.”
‘Hope for the Underrated Youth’ follows on from YUNGBLUD’s previous single, ‘Parents’. You can catch the artist performing at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival over August bank holiday before he heads out to play shows in the US in addition to a UK and European tour.
‘Hope for the Underrated Youth’ is out now.
