Zayn Malik has sent waves of excitement through the music industry as he officially announced his much-awaited fourth studio album, “Room Under the Stairs“.
Following a hiatus of three years since his last album release in 2021, Malik took to social media to reveal the album’s title, cover art, and release date, igniting anticipation among his dedicated fanbase, Zquad!
“Room Under the Stairs” promises to offer deeply personal insights into Zayn Malik’s life and experiences through his poignant storytelling, slated to release on May 17, 2024, through his new label Mercury Records. “I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listeners to get more insight on me [personally] as a human being — my ambitions, my fears,” Malik shared in a teaser he dropped last week. “And for them to have a connection with that.”
The forthcoming record heralds a new sonic era for Zayn Malik, showcasing his authentic and unfiltered artistry in what promises to be his most personal work to date. In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone last month, Malik disclosed that his upcoming LP, co-produced with Dave Cobb, was meticulously crafted over several years at Malik’s rural Pennsylvania home.
Reflecting on his creative process, he emphasized: “That’s why it’s raw. It’s just me writing this; I didn’t want anybody else to be [in] between me and the music and the people listening to it.” “What got me about Zayn was his voice; you can hear love, loss, pain, triumph, and humanity in it,” Cobb shared his admiration for Malik’s vocal prowess and the emotional depth it brings to the upcoming album.
The album’s lead single, “What I Am,” will be gracing the airwaves tomorrow, Friday, March 15, offering a tantalizing preview of the musical journey that awaits listeners. Zayn has treated fans to sneak peeks of the single on his Instagram, sharing snippets of the track with poignant lyrics such as, “If I told you I loved you, would you say that it’s f**ked up?”
Adding to the excitement, Zayn Malik caused a stir among fans with an unexpected appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night. Without uttering a single word, the singer silently approached the comedian on stage and handed him a note teasing his upcoming single, “What I Am.”
The audience erupted into a huge applause and the fans quickly took to Twitter to note the irony of Malik’s quiet demeanour, joking that only his new team could orchestrate such a talk show appearance without him speaking.
Malik is also set to appear on the popular game show ‘Hot Ones’ this Thursday, March 14, as part of his promotional tour leading up to the release of his album.
Since his last album, “Nobody Is Listening,” dropped in 2021, Malik’s musical output has been limited to occasional singles and collaborations. These include a couple of singles, including “To Begin Again” with Ingrid Michaelson, a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel,” solo release “Love Like This” in the mid-last year, and the latest would be his collaboration with Pakistani group Aur on a reimagining of their hit single, “Tu Hai Kahan.”
With its release on the horizon, “Room Under the Stairs” is poised to enrapture audiences worldwide with its poignant storytelling and innovative soundscapes, promising to be a significant milestone in his career. Stay tuned for more updates as we’ll keep you posted on the new updates and the inner workings of one of music’s most intriguing talents.
