Former Shake It Up star and major role model Zendaya talked to Complex recently and shed some light on what it’s like to be a former Disney star.

Disney stars seem to have this reputation of rebelling and not wanting to be the good girl/ boy that they were while being on day time TV.I as well as Zendaya think in reality it’s them growing up and finding themselves.
Stars such as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers have been in the limelight for most of their life and from a very young age, means that when they’re growing up and experiencing life, they’re being watched by the public.
“You’ve got to realize when you’re really young you don’t know who you are yet. And as soon as you figure it out, you’ve already been forced to become something that you didn’t really know you signed up for,” Zendaya told Complex. “Everyone has their different ways of learning and growing and finding out who they are, and you can’t fault people for that. Again, I think with all the prior Disney stars, at least you can say they are themselves now.
I believe all teenage celebrities go through this and unlike them we,”normal”people/teenagers, get to make mistakes and learn from our mistakes without 7 billion Twitter followers criticising our every move or getting told what to do by a management team.
The 18-year old star isn’t saying not going to have a “Miley moment” or a “Britney break down” but that she’s just going to be herself and true to who she is. She’s a real model not a role model.
“I think it’s a responsibility, but like Tupac Shakur, I’m a real model,” she said. “Which means: I’m not pretending to be something that I’m not, because like he said, people are going to be disappointed when they find out who you are, because it’s not going to be what you presented to the world. So just keep it real.”
