Uttoxeter born Adam Peaty brings home Great Britain’s first gold medal of Rio 2016.
The Staffordshire born swimmer has taken to the pool tonight to win a gold medal in the 100 metre breaststroke. The final took place just before 3am British time and it has been worth staying up for. It’s been a shaky start for Team GB but Adam Peaty has made us proud!
As well as winning the gold, he also managed to beat the world record! He’s got some amazing achievements; 2015 world champion, the 2014 and 2016 European champion and 2014 Commonwealth champion in 100 metre breaststroke. As well as 2015 word champion and 2014 European champion in 50 metre backstroke. Now, he gets to add the Olympic champion of the 100 metre breaststroke to the list!
It’s a very proud morning for Britain and one that people will love waking up to. It’s been an emotional event!
Congratulations Adam Peaty, well done for making Britain proud!
